Haidar Operation : the real reasons of militancy PDF Print E-mail

For most of the observers, Aminatou Haidar’s reactions since November 16 are not at all spontaneous. By rallying to the Algerian secret services, she loses all kind of legitimacy to defend the human rights. According to all media means, Haidar has never denounced the life conditions and human rights in Tindouf as well as in the Algerian sequestration camps in Tindouf and Rabouni. That can be normal for a human rights militant coming from elsewhere but not for a militant that wants to defend the Sahrawi people. These actions principally aim at diverting the international opinion from the real issues and stakes of the Sahara, blurring the voices of the international NGO who condemn the life conditions of the Sahrawi people in Tindouf camps, trying to give credibility to a front condemned by many organisms for humanitarian aid misappropriation, torpedoing the negotiations process intended by Morocco and the autonomy plan judged by the international community as “credible” to get out of the deadlock of the Sahara conflict, and other visible and hidden reasons that corroborated with the Algerian agenda to divert the attention of the Algerian people from the daily robbery of oil incomes.

The participants in the round table of November 9th, 2009, initiated by the Moroccan Center of Strategic Studies and Researches(CMERS), about the disappearance and torture cases perpetuated in Tindouf camps, in the Algerian South-West, have insisted, in a final release, at the end of their works, accompanied with testimonies and poignant stories of ancient war prisoners and victims of exactions, tortures and forced disappearances committed by the Polisario and the Algerian military Security, on launching a vibrant call to the international community so that judicial pursuits, for war crimes and crimes against the humanity, should be undertaken by the international instances against the officials of the Polisario and of the Algerian military Security departments.

What happens in Tindouf “Sahrawi refugees” camps, in the Algerian South-West? The question deserves to be asked, as there are so many echoes and testimonies that talk about arrests made by the Algerian security departments, during the last weeks, of many opponents of the Polisario leader within Tindouf camps. These operations come in reprisal to the huge movement of internal dissidence, even if it is still under-structured, in the Polisario, blaming the Polisario leadership and its frozen and obstructionist policy in negotiations with Morocco.
In fact, some voices, more and more strong and daring, have started emerging, in contest and dissidence to the hard and hermetic line of the Polisario leadership which does not allow any internal discussion or critics concerning the camps’ future and to the pursuit of negotiations with Morocco.

At the time when the Sahrawi activists work openly to defend human rights in the Moroccan Sahara taking advantage of the solidarity of the wide Moroccan associative network and of the symbolic capital accumulated by the latter during the decades of militancy and also of the undeniable opening of the Moroccan society, and of the State afterwards, to everything relating to the sensitive human rights sector, the issue of the same human rights remain a major concern on the other side, that of Lahmada camps on the Algerian territory, despite the calls and the denunciations of the NGO and the international institutions, and mainly UN institutions, HCR at their head!
